If, like me, you grew up on a staple of American TV shows, then The Incredible Hulk is a character you’re probably already familiar with.
The first attempt to bring the big green hero to the silver screen was, by all accounts, a disaster. Sure, there were some nice bits of CGI, but the film was totally forgettable. If you’d wasted your hard earned cash going to the cinema you’d have every right to feel ripped off.
Skip forward a few years and we see the release of a new incarnation of Hulk. This time round Edward Norton goes green, while the love interest is provided by the ever delectable Liv Tyler.
Unlike the first film this time round we don’t have to suffer through the entire radiation accident, as its told by way of newspaper headlines, so you really need to get to the cinema on time!
No hero is complete without a villain and Hulk has a few to contend with in the form of Tim Roth and William Hurt.
All in all it’s a really good Marvel hero movie.
There’s plenty of action, a bit of romance and a Hulk with some depth.
To make it all the more interesting it seems that Edward Norton wasn’t overly impressed with the final cut and isn’t doing any PR for the film.
Nothing like a whiff of scandal !

Comments Off 18 June 2008

sleeping beauty blu-ray cover artwork
If you’ve purchased any Disney blu ray releases in the last few months you’ve probably already seen the advance publicity for their upcoming release of Sleeping Beauty on Blu Ray.
The restored version comes with 7.1 audio and must have cost a lot more to produce than the original 6 million dollars the studio spent in 1958!
The Blu Ray disc will be getting its US release in October, however the Academy is holding a special screening on July 18th in Beverly Hills.
Full details of the special screening are available on the Academy’s site

Get Smart US Release This Week

Get Smart

Get Smart, starring Steve Carell, Anne Hathaway and Dwayne Johnston (The Rock) is being released in the US this week.
By the looks of things Irish audiences may have to wait until the middle of July (11th July at present) before it graces our screens.
Whether the big screen version will be able to live up to fans’ expectations is going to be hard to say, however it will be the first encounter with Get Smart for an entire generation, as the original TV show hasn’t aired since 1970!

This summer will see the much awaited release of Dark Knight, which continues the darker story of Batman (Christian Bale) that began with the release of Batman Begins.
Warner are obviously intending on milking this puppy for every cent, so they’re releasing a limited edition giftset version of the blu ray release of Batman Begins.
It looks really cool and includes a bunch of extras:

The limited-edition Blu-ray gift set includes Blu-Ray high-def exclusive content: The Dark Knight Prologue, plus movie cash to see The Dark Knight in theaters (a $7.50 value), 32-page exclusive Dark Knight Prologue book, 16-page comic book adaptation of the first 6 minutes of The Dark Knight, a Batman Begins lenticular, and five collectible post cards

The fire in Universal Studios that I mentioned yesterday did not claim any lives. Unfortunately it did result in the destruction of the Back to the Future town square set.
