City of Ember has a rather strange story as its premise. Following on from some sort of disaster or apocalyptic event the last survivors of humanity take refuge in an underground city. The original plan was that after 200 years they would make their way back to the surface, but that was not to be.
Over 200 years pass and the underground city is quite literally crumbling around the inhabitants.
The central characters of the film are two children who, through a series of coincidences, stumble upon some of the lost secrets from the city's past.
While the story line and pacing may not be the best, the film is a visual treat. I watched the bluray release which also contains a couple of extras on the disc, so I was able to enjoy it in fantastic high definition.
The cast features quite a few familiar faces including Bill Murray (Groundhog Day), Harry Treadaway (Narnia) and Saoirse Ronan (Atonement).
