Avatar Breaking Box Office Records

Comments Off 04 January 2010

Avatar - Character
James Cameron’s Avatar was only released a couple of weeks ago, but it’s already broken several box office records.

According to the latest reports the film is already the 4th highest grossing film in history. Oddly enough another James Cameron flick, Titanic, still holds the number 1 spot.

Figures from Box Office Mojo currently report that Avatar has brought in over $1 billion so far worldwide. If those figures are box office receipts ONLY, then the total grossed to date could be significantly higher.
The soundtrack to Avatar is currently ranking at no. 18 in the Amazon US music bestseller list. It may not be faring as well on Amazon UK, but it’s doing pretty well on iTunes, where it currently ranks at 42 on the bestseller list.
And there’s also the console game, the various tie-in books, posters, tshirts etc etc etc, without even mentioning the millions that they’ll pull in when the film gets released on DVD and BluRay in April.

It will be interesting to see how this pans out.

Did You Hear About The Morgans?

Comments Off 01 January 2010

“Did You Hear About The Morgans?” is not going to change your life or make cinema history. You wouldn’t expect it to.

What it is, however, is a good little romantic comedy starring Hugh Grant and Sarah Jessica Parker.

The Morgans are having problems with their marriage. When they happen to witness a murder and end up being put into a witness relocation program the fun really begins. Both of the Morgans are high powered execs that live their lives with their Blackberries and are used to the New York city life. The US Marshalls place them in a tiny town in the middle of Wyoming where they’re completely cut off from the city life and all they are used to.

The results are amusing. Not hilarious most of the time, but quite amusing.

Hugh Grant plays Hugh Grant basically. While that can be quite amusing at times it can get a little tired.

The supporting cast include Sam Elliot (Ghost Rider, The Golden Compass), who seems to have been playing cowboys for an eternity. This time round he’s matched with Mary Steenburgen (Step Brothers) , who seems to like guns more than jewelry.

Here’s a clip:
