Eagle Eye Keeps You On the Edge Of Your Seat

I mentioned Eagle Eye a few days ago, as it was being released on Friday. At the time I’d only seen the trailer and read the press releases, so I didn’t have a whole lot to go on.
This evening I got to see the final product and I must admit it was a revelation.
While it is easy to try and draw parallels between some of the elements of Eagle Eye and films like Enemy of the State (I already did!), I wouldn’t rush to do so now.
Jerry Shaw (Shia LaBeouf) is a college dropout who seems to be wandering from one deadend job to another. He barely has enough money to pay his rent.
Rachel Holloman (Michelle Monaghan) is a single mother whose ex-husband can’t even remember their son’s birthday.
What do the two main characters have in common?
Nothing.
That is until their lives are taken over and their loved ones put at risk by a mysterious female caller who seems to be omnipotent – controlling and seeing everything.
The film features a wonderful combination of fast car chases and heartpounding thrills. Unlike a lot of the rubbish being produced by Hollywood you are left in suspense for a good part of the film, as the story twists and turns.
Shia LaBeouf seems to be one of Hollywood’s hottest properties at the moment and with this adrenalin packed thriller under his belt he’s bound to be in even more demand in the future.
Michelle Monaghan plays a very different role to the one she had in Made of Honor and it’s a pleasant surprise to see her fill it.
With a supporting cast of Billy Bob Thornton, Rosario Dawson and Michael Chiklis (Fantastic Four) Eagle Eye will keep you on the edge of your seat.
Is it thought provoking?
At some levels – yes.
There are definitely elements of “The Net” and “Enemy of the State”, but they’re not the central elements ie. the film makers aren’t trying to preach to us, but give us 78 minutes of entertainment.
