Willie Wonka 40th Anniversary Boxset

Comments Off 08 January 2012

Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory

The original Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory was released in 1971 – just over 40 years ago.

I’ve always had mixed feelings about the film and in many ways the Tim Burton remake is a lot better, though both versions have their merits.

In any case if you’re a fan you can now get a very tasty boxset for your collection

The boxset is pretty impressive, as it contains both blu-ray (1080p) and DVD versions of the original 1971 film, as well as an extra disc featuring a documentary.

There’s also a number of Willie Wonka collectibles and a colour booklet:

Irish Director Jim Sheridan’s Dream House

Comments Off 28 November 2011

Jim Sheridan

Image via Wikipedia

Irish director Jim Sheridan is probably best known for films like My Left Foot or In The Name of the Father.

His most recent film, which got a very negative review in this weekend’s Sunday Business Post is much more commercial and stars Daniel Craig and Rachel Wiesz.

Dream House is a horror – but with this film it’s pretty clear that the horror refers not only to the film’s genre but the film itself.  According to the LA Times, Sheridan was so unhappy with the cut that the studio released that he wanted his name removed from it!

Even the trailer (below) was met with negative reception, as it gives away more of the film’s plot and twists than many would be comfortable with

Harry Potter Wand Boxset

Comments Off 09 August 2011

Since the latest (and last) Harry Potter movie is still showing in cinemas it might be almost premature to be thinking about boxsets .. However it’s 2011, so we can pre-order DVDs and BluRay as soon as we get out of the cinema..

Here’s a particularly nice Harry Potter boxset (currently only available via Amazon France):

Harry Potter wand bluray boxset

The boxset contains 11 bluray discs in total, which is made up of the 8 films of the series plus 3 discs of “extras”. If you haven’t switched to bluray yet you can get a DVD version as well

Samy Naceri At Cannes

Comments Off 18 May 2011

As mentioned previously, Renault are one of the official sponsors for this year’s Cannes Film Festival. They’re providing the cars to ferry the stars to and from events. They’ve been making available some really nice shots of celebrities “caught in the moment”

This one is of French actor Samy Naceri, who is probably best known for his roles in films such as Taxi (the Besson ones)
