Clash of the Titans

The original Clash of the Titans wasn’t “great cinema”, but it obviously did well enough to attract interest in this remake. Unfortunately the remake it a bit of a damp squid.

On general release in both standard and 3D, Clash of the Titans is one of those films that you can happily wait for the DVD or Bluray release to watch.

Avatar’s Sam Worthington plays Perseus, son of Zeus (Liam Neeson). His “father” on earth Spyros is played by Pete Postlewaithe, so on the casting side of things they’ve definitely got plenty of heavy hitters.. and don’t forget Ralph Fiennes as Hades.

But it’s pretty clear that the casting cannot compensate for the truly awful script. Sitting in the dark of the cinema you literally find yourself fidgeting, which is not a good sign!

On the plus side, some of the visual and special effects are pretty slick, but only when you compare them to the original. However a few special effects and a good cast doesn’t really save this film.

If you want to watch it so be it, but there are better ways to spend a couple of hours.

Most squids are damp. Squibs, however, are explosive devices, originally used in mining but now more commonly associated with simulating bullets hitting people in movies. A damp squib is a wet explosive – i.e. one that would fail to ignite. A damp squid is just a squid that’s moist.
Sounds like an awful movie, but I did watch 2012 last night so I shouldn’t criticise!

The difference between 2012 and Clash of the Titans is significant 🙂
With 2012 you expect it to be a cheesy disaster movie, so you’re not going to be disappointed. Plus the special effects in 2012 are pretty amazing (the bluray release isn’t.. )
With Clash of the Titans you’re expecting a revamp and reboot of a film that you remember enjoying as a child and it completely misses the mark
