Is summer 2009 going to be another summer dominated by sequels?
Or are we going to see some new and interesting films that really captivate the imagination?
On the sequel front there are several titles due for release that will be anxiously awaited by a lot of people.
X-Men Origins (Wolverine) – A “working” print of this was leaked online a couple of weeks ago, but I suspect it will still do well at the box office. The X Men franchise always seems to do quite well regardless of how good the films themselves actually are. In this outing we get to find out how Wolverine came into being.
Star Trek – Yet another “franchise reboot”. With the trailers and other stuff I’ve seen so far this looks like it will be worth watching. Abrams has a way of doing films that just works I guess!
Angels and Demons – I think I’ll pass.
Night at the Museum 2 – The first one was great fun. Here’s hoping that the sequel is just as enjoyable
Terminator Salvation – well we all know about this one. If for no other reason than the onset outbursts of the lead actor. In any case I’ve always liked the Terminator franchise, so with the latest technology available for the effects this should be visually interesting at least.
Transformers – Revenge of the Fallen – I loved the first one, so I hope this one is as good. Expect lots and lots of hype
Ice Age – Dawn of the Dinos – the previous Ice Age films have been very popular, though I still haven’t actually seen one from beginning to end.
Already released sequels ….
Fast and Furious – I’m still not 100% sure about this one. They brought back most of the original cast, which was probably a good thing in some ways, but it isn’t exactly “amazing cinema”. Some great action sequences though.
Crank – High Voltage – Looks like wonderfully violent escapism.
Have I missed any important one?
Are any of these films going to be worse than I can imagine?
