How studios decide on which films get blu ray releases and which ones don’t is an odd one.
Le Grand Bleu, for example, was released, but only in French. Considering the film wasn’t even made in French originally, Gaumont’s choice of release language is odd.
But what about Dances With Wolves?
Kevin Costner’s western epic won several Oscars and is they type of “big” film that lends itself easily to the blu ray / high definition treatment. However if you want the blu ray release you’ll need to grab it from Germany (7.1 audio tracks in German and English thankfully!)
Other releases have brought new cuts to home cinema audiences, while others are more lacking in features than their DVD versions. Consistency is obviously an issue and in many cases, unfortunately, the blu ray release may not bring that much to the table.
Here’s hoping that the other studios will follow Disney’s lead…
