The Karate Kid series of films, starring Ralph Macchio and Pat Morita, was released in 1984. Over 25 years later it looks like Sony Pictures is trying to give the franchise a “reboot”.
The Karate Kid, starring Jackie Chan and Jaden Smith, goes on general release in June 2010.
While the story is set this time round in China, the plot seems very similar to the original 1980s version. Whether Jackie Chan will be able to fill the shoes of Morita will be hard to tell, as the two actors are so very different (Morita passed away in 2005).

Expect to hear more as the PR machine gets cranked up, in the meantime there’s plenty of buzz around the trailer ..
