If you have a profile 2 bluray player with an internet connection, then you can take advantage of the BD Live content on some discs. You will, however, need to have an external memory stick for your BD deck (a detail that most vendors seem to make less than obvious!)
The disc I was playing around with earlier today was Wanted (with Angelina Jolie). The BD Live features give you an extra couple of “making of” features, as well as access to a few trailers.
While the features are pretty good the speed they load at will depend on your internet connection, so you can be left waiting for several minutes.
Do I like the feature?
Yes, though I’d want to see a few more BD Live features from other studios before I make my mind up. If the content is too “heavy” then the user experience is going to be tainted by the long delays while waiting for it to load, so it would make more sense to put more of it on the actual discs themselves.
Having said that it’s still an interesting use of the technology.
