Although it won’t hit Irish screens until this Friday, Shrek The Third is already on general release in France. I went to see it last week.
I have to admit that I wasn’t too sure what to expect of the third instalment in the Shrek series.
The first film – Shrek – was absolutely hilarious and has some of the funniest scenes I’ve ever seen in an animated film. Part two wasn’t as funny, but did introduce some nice twists.
Shrek the Third is, however, fantastic.
I’m not too sure how well it would be received by someone who hadn’t seen the first two instalments, but I simply loved it.
Nearly all the characters from the first two parts are involved in some shape or form.
The story is quite simple – Shrek, as we know, is an ogre. He enjoys being an ogre and really doesn’t want to be anything else. When his father in law dies Shrek is faced with a choice between being crowned king or finding another heir to the thrown.
In classic fairytale fashion Shrek is the “goodie”, so you have to have a “baddie”, which in this instance is our old friend Charming.
I won’t go into any more detail as I’d hate to give the plot away, but I can assure you that you will laugh so much that you might even cry!
One to see!
